Frequently Asked Questions

Learn how therapy works, what to expect, and how A New Tomorrow Psychotherapy in Vaughan supports you every step of the way.

Choosing to begin therapy is a personal decision — and that choice alone is enough reason to start. Many people seek therapy to navigate life changes such as grief, relationship challenges, or career transitions, while others come to better understand themselves or process past experiences.
You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy — it can also be a space for growth, reflection, and building on what’s already going well in your life. At A New Tomorrow Psychotherapy in Kleinburg, we’re here to support you wherever you are on your journey.

Yes — therapy can be highly effective when there’s a good fit between you and your therapist. After the first few sessions, you’ll start to get a sense of whether you feel comfortable, supported, and understood.
While therapy isn’t a quick fix, many clients begin noticing meaningful shifts early on. Over time, with consistency and trust, therapy can lead to lasting growth and emotional well-being.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental health and can prescribe medication.
A psychologist provides therapy and psychological assessments but does not prescribe medication.
A psychotherapist, like those at A New Tomorrow Psychotherapy, offers talk therapy and evidence-based techniques to help clients work through emotional challenges and build healthier coping strategies.

Everyone’s journey is unique. Some people notice improvements after a few sessions, while others experience gradual change over time. Therapy works best when approached consistently and with openness.
At A New Tomorrow Psychotherapy, our focus is on meaningful, lasting progress — not quick fixes.

It’s normal to feel a strong connection with your therapist early on. However, as therapy progresses, you’ll gain skills and confidence that help you feel more self-reliant. Many clients eventually transition from weekly sessions to occasional check-ins as they feel more empowered in their growth and everyday life.

Friends offer support and empathy, but psychotherapy provides a professional, confidential space for deeper exploration. A therapist is trained to help you process complex emotions, identify patterns, and create long-term change.
At A New Tomorrow Psychotherapy, sessions are guided by proven therapeutic approaches that go beyond advice or conversation — focusing on your healing, growth, and resilience.

Psychotherapy isn’t covered by OHIP, but most extended health plans and employee benefits include coverage for sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist.
We provide official receipts for reimbursement and tax purposes — check with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage details.

Melissa Farinaccia Piccone

Hi, I’m Melissa – I’m Glad You’re Here.

I know how overwhelming it can feel to start therapy. What is it? What should I expect? You’re not alone in wondering. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you—because you’re not broken. It’s about getting curious, understanding your emotions, and learning how to work with them, not against them.

Maybe anxiety makes everyday life feel exhausting, or anger shows up in ways you don’t like. These emotions aren’t the problem—they’re trying to protect you. Together, we’ll explore the “why” behind them, so you can create real, lasting change without feeling like you have to fight yourself.

There’s nothing wrong with you. You just haven’t been taught how to understand what’s going on beneath the surface—and that’s where I come in. Let’s start with a free consultation and see where this journey takes us. I can’t wait to connect with you!

Martina Banaj

Hi, I’m Martina – I’m Glad You’re Here.

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. I provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and challenges at your own pace.

Holding an M.A in Counselling Psychology, my approach is collaborative and flexible. I use a range of evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), tailoring each session to fit your specific needs.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship challenges, or major life transitions, my goal is to help you gain clarity, develop effective coping strategies, and build resilience.

Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all. I meet you where you are and work with you to create meaningful, lasting change. Above all, I believe in the importance of trust and safety in therapy. I strive to create an environment where you feel comfortable being yourself, opening up, and working through whatever is on your mind. If you’re ready to take that step, I’m here to support you.

Madison Furgiuele

Hi, I’m Madison – I’m Glad You’re Here.

Madison is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). She holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and a B.A. in Psychology, with previous research exploring perfectionistic tendencies in youth.

Madison is dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, respected and understood. With warmth and empathy, Madison meets each client where they are, collaborating with them to develop personalized treatment plans that align with their unique values, strengths, and goals.

Recognizing that each client’s journey is unique, Madison adopts an integrative approach to counselling. She draws on evidence-based modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to tailor her approach to individual needs. Her goal is to empower clients with practical skills for navigating challenges and fostering meaningful, lasting change.

Alessandra Nota Ly

Hi, I’m Alessandra – I’m Glad You’re Here.

Hi and welcome! My name is Alessandra, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist. Thanks for being here. I know how difficult it can be to take this first step in starting your journey because I was once there too, and because of this, I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows my clients to feel comfortable and supported.

I truly believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and therefore, I take an integrative approach which is grounded in a person-centered and strengths-based framework. What does this mean for you? In our work together, you will be the guide, and I will be there to walk alongside you and support you in your journey to meet your goals and better your overall wellbeing.

As we work together in the therapy room, I hope that we are not only able to help you better understand your symptoms and concerns but also build a toolkit of strengths and skills for you to draw on in your day-to-day life. You may see me utilize components of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness strategies to aid in our work together, as well as some art therapy techniques. If you are ready to embark on your own therapeutic journey, I would be happy to help you in taking that first step.
